Juliann L. Bowman Juli has over 10 years of Information Technology and management experience working for multiple companies in the fast paced, extremely competitive telecommunications industry. She has held management positions with industry leaders such as Global TeleSystems, Inc. (GTS) and Qwest/LCI, as well as technical and consulting positions in a small telecommunications consulting startup. Juli is a strong leader and possesses expert management skills in geographically disbursed and international environments. As Director of Global Office Automation at GTS, Juli was responsible for the strategic direction and 4th level support of office automation systems for Corporate Systems (IT) department, serving approximately 4000 users in over 15 countries (US and Europe). She managed a global team of technical leads and managers in the US and Europe, covering multiple disciplines including intranet, email, server, client, and IT process development areas. These subject matter experts led cross-functional teams consisting of counterparts in operations and user community to design, test, deploy, and support new systems. Juli controlled a $7M annual budget. Her initial efforts and projects were aimed at the integration of multiple, disparate systems serving small groups of users across the company into larger, scalable systems to serve the entire company. Her projects included the following: design and deployment of a company-wide intranet; Livelink rollout; conversion of over 10 disparate email systems to a single Exchange 5.5 system; Windows NT 4.0 workstation deployment in multiple languages; implementation of virus protection; institution of a global helpdesk with a "follow-the-sun" support approach; creation of a change control process to span all areas of IT; and, implementation of software distribution for all client applications and changes. Other projects Juli initiated included enterprise tape backup, enterprise directory, system monitoring, and an IT user group. Her design and implementation criteria looked not only at technology, but also scalability, supportability, and economies of scale to provide premier cost-effective systems/solutions. Juli's projects focused on the ability to integrate with existing and future systems, standardization across all areas within IT, global scalability, adaptability to corporate changes, multi-language issues, and ease of acquisition integration. As Senior Manager of Distributed Computing at Qwest and LCI International (LCI was acquired by Qwest), Juli was responsible for the strategy and operations of file/print, email, software distribution, and remote access services for 10,000 users. She managed a 25-person team spread across sites in Virginia, Ohio, Colorado, and Texas. She conducted the planning, budgeting, scheduling and management of projects and resolution of problems and issues escalated to third level support. Her team's daily operations included management of NetWare file servers, NT application servers, Exchange, NT workstation configurations, software distribution, remote access, system monitoring and reporting, and hardware/software standards and purchases. Projects included the following: NT 4.0 workstation rollout; remote access for NT workstations; implementation of ManageWise, Bindview, AlertPage for monitoring/reporting systems; MS Mail to Exchange upgrade; Windows Terminal Server/Citrix; Outlook Web Access; integration of new acquisitions into Qwest's network; Year 2000 compliance; web-based software distribution; NetWare 5 upgrade and NetWare to NT migration planning; and, an SMS 2.0 implementation. Juli improved team operations through providing clear priorities and areas of responsibility, establishing primary and backup persons responsible for each area, documenting system configurations and procedures, and establishing a means of change control. As Senior Network Engineer, Office Automation at LCI International, Juli was responsible for office automation operations, project management, software distribution, and end-user support. She assessed, prioritized, and managed Office Automation system integration projects. Juli worked with Quality Assurance and software development teams to establish software distribution standards and procedures. She managed the software distribution of over 60 internally developed and numerous commercial client applications to 3000+ users in multiple locations, ensuring that client applications were tested and properly integrated with standard client configuration. At Pulse Technologies, Inc., a small, startup telecommunications consulting firm, Juli was an engineer responsible for system administration, training development and delivery, end-user support, documentation, and proposal development. She worked extensively with automatic call distribution systems, including administration, training, support, help desk design and implementation, change management procedure development, and documentation of NorTel's networked automatic call distribution system for clients such as Bell Atlantic, NYNEX, Southwestern Bell Telephone, Telecom Australia, and Southern New England Telephone. Other projects included the following: software development, documentation, and training for Sprint's 800 Services call routing control system; development and delivery of courses on LAN/WAN technologies, client/server computing, and internally developed applications; and, LAN design and implementations. Juli has a Bachelors Degree from The George Washington University. |
